To young people this Christmas/Holiday Season…

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!  But not for everyone.

We hope everyone has a wonderful time, but if you’re not feeling great over the Christmas period it’s totally normal.  There are so many reasons you might not enjoy the season. Many people feel the pressure of having the “perfect” Christmas, whatever that means.  And even if your Christmas seems perfect to everyone else, it doesn’t mean you feel happy and festive.

We know some of you are stressed about upcoming exams, or exams you’ve already had.  Stressed about school, social media, friendships and more. Maybe you’re missing someone. We know you have a lot on.  Use this time over Christmas to relax, do something you enjoy, switch off your phone, reach out to friends, and have fun. Give yourself the gift of some self care and make time for some “me time”.

Have some perspective.  It might be difficult now, but it will be over soon.  Remember you won’t always feel this way, and things do get better.  Reach out to a friend this Christmas, let them know you’re thinking of them.  You might just make someone’s day.

If for whatever reason you’re just not feeling the festive cheer, or you’re finding it difficult being at home then there are lots of supports available to you.  People care about you and are there to listen if you need them.  Please reach out.

Helplines.  They’re here for all of us.
