Donegal Youth Service is governed by a voluntary Board of Directors, comprising dedicated volunteers from the youth and community sector, along with experts in law, management, finance, education, social disadvantage, employment, and youth work. We actively encourage youth participation at the Board level, ensuring young voices help shape our direction.

The Board meets each month (except August), with a Finance Committee meeting held prior to each Board meeting. The officer positions of the Board are Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Treasurer and Company Secretary. The Board is subdivided into subgroups (committees) to deal with Finance, Staffing, Policy and the Donegal Youth Service Community Employment Scheme. On occasions, sub-groups are formed to deal with specific issues and once an issue has been satisfactorily resolved, the subgroup is dissolved.

Election of Board Members

Board members are duly nominated and elected at the Annual General Meeting, which usually takes place in April or May each year. It is a policy of Donegal Youth Service that one third of the Board stand down each year to allow for new people to be elected. To keep in line with Company Law, once elected, the Companies Office is informed of new Directors and of any resignations. Board members personal details are lodged with the Companies Office as well as any other Directorships they are involved in.

Board Requirements

Donegal Youth Service actively encourages members of the community to serve on the voluntary Board. Nominations and applications are always welcomed. All Donegal Youth Service Board members are subject to Garda Vetting and are required to complete Child Protection Training as part of their induction and personal development training.
